Preparing for Change

The Fisk Group HR team recently joined Impact HR’s East team at Layer Marney Tower near Colchester for a day of talks on the biggest challenges facing employers today. The Tudor surroundings made a memorable setting, and the day brought together employers and HR professionals from across the region.

The day opened with the upcoming Employment Rights Act changes. The discussion covered trade union rights, employers’ duty to prevent sexual harassment, and how the changes could affect different industries. Our main takeaway was that employers who start preparing now will be in a much stronger position.

Later sessions covered probation periods and why a strong culture matters from day one, and how AI is changing in the workplace. The day closed with a session on culture and engagement, which tied together many of the earlier themes.

The conversations between sessions were just as valuable as the talks, and it was great to swap ideas with others facing the same challenges.
